What is Paint ?

Paint is the homogenous mixture of resins, pigments, solvents and additives which when applied on the surface spreads into a film to obliterate or hide the surface. It also forms the barrier between the atmosphere and the surface. Paint, therefore has three major functions to perform

1.
  Decoration
2.
  Corrosion inhibition
3.
  Barrier Protection

The decorative paint is much significant in today’s context. The pigments in paints, which take care of electrochemical chemistry, perform corrosion inhibition. The barrier Protection is needed to keep the atmospheric moisture and oxygen from coming in contact with the surface without which reaction of iron converting into rust cannot take place.

The Painting system consists essentially of four steps:

1.
  Surface preparation
2.
  Application of Primer Coat
3.
 Application of intermediate coat
4.
  Application of finish coat.
