::   Protection from Corrosion  ::

Our country losses assets worth Rs. 5000 crore per year due to corrosion. It is said that almost 10% of the total steal production in the countries goes in to replacement instead of creating new assets. The best method to combat this menace is by coating steel with proper painting system. It is therefore, essential to know what corrosion is, how it takes place and then abt the coating material so that we take all the precautions to reduce the spread of corrosion and select the best system suitable for a given place & environment.

Corrosion is a electrochemical phenomenon. Steel substrate rusts due to natural corrosion by electronic cell formation. Rust is essentially the conversion to metal iron into a hydrate form of its oxide Fe 2 O 36H 2O. The Electrolytic action between the rust anmd the steel and also the potential difference between the two will further corrode the steel and the process will go on & on at a greater speed. Rust formation is added by the moisture and oxygen in the oil. The solutions therefore lie in preventing the formation of rust in first place.
